Writing Instructions
In Term 4 here in RM 11 we learnt how to write instructions. We did lots of activities to learn how to write instructions, such as writing instructions for how to get from one place in the school to another, writing instructions for how to play Minecraft, sitting back to back and giving our buddies clear instructions to draw a simple drawing and writing instructions for how to catch a bus (linking with our inquiry topic of transport).
In reading we read some instructions from some of the School Journal stories and made things like hacky sacks, paper cups, Icosahedrons, button bracelets and pop-up cards. These activities were so fun!
When you write instructions you must remember to include a title, a list of equipment, sub-headings (equipment, method), numbers, verbs (doing words) and visual text (to help the reader).
Here are some pictures for you to look at.

Making Space Gadgets
Hey parents did you know your kid in Room 11 made space gadgets out
of recycled materials? At the end of Term 2 the theme was a rocket but
most kids did something else like robots and diagrams. The first thing
we did was to make our teams - in my team was Anthony, James, Jack
and Bradley. The reason why I choose James and James choose
me was because James is good at designing and I am good at
putting stuff together. Jack is good at designing as well and Bradley is good at crafting stuff like me. Our team created a robot space dog with three heads!
So let me tell you how we made this. Firstly you get four toilet rolls as
legs. Secondly you get a shoe box from number one shoes for
your body. Thirdly you get a box about half the size of the number one shoes box and make two holes in the sides of the box for eyes.
Fourthly you cut the bottom of the box and tape glad wrap cutter for
the teeth be careful you can cut yourself once you have done that you
will have your jaws. Fifthly you make a cardboard scorpion tail with
three stingers. Sixthly you make two large bunny ears of any colour.
Next you stick a toilet roll to a strip of cardboard, draw two black eyes
and cut out some teeth. Lastly you stick it to the body and also use strings to keep the heads above the ground remember that you need two heads. We had fun making our space gadget!
