School Cross Country Training

This year, we have been doing cross country training. When we do it we get super pumped and feel awesome! The run is 1km and goes around the whole of Hillcrest. It starts at the top field and goes out the exit by RM 14 then comes out at Ellen Ave. Then it goes through the walkway to Cobblestone Lane and we cross the road. Then we go down a slope to Hillcrest Ave where we go up the hill to Holland. Once we’ve gone left we keep going until we get to Northgrove Ave down and around the hill and round about. But the year 3s are allowed to cut through the Hillcrest domain that comes out at the bottom of Northgrove ave. Then we go through the back entrance! Surprisingly the school cross country is fast approaching on Wednesday 2nd September!

Kids Can Cook Show

On Monday 8 August we went to a show by Kids Can Cook to teach us how to cook some things they also taught us about other cultural foods including French pancakes A.K.A crepes. The cook chose a sous chef and told us some tips about cooking while the sous chef made some crepes with apple and silverbeet. Yum! Fun fact: frogs legs taste like chicken. The chef asked us how many sides do we think an apple has - apparently an apple has six sides, wow! That’s only if you cut it though!  We really enjoyed the show.

Soccer

On the 22nd April 2015 Room 11 went out to the school field to practice soccer with the Football kids NZ Northern Football Federation coaches.

We played lots of fun games including Bull rush with soccer balls. This works by having one tagger in the middle and everyone else with a soccer ball trying to get to the other side without the tagger kicking the ball out of the boundary.

Next we played cowboys and cowgirls. This game works by having two people on each side of the pitch trying to kick their ball into other peoples ankles, feet or soccer balls. If they succeed they go to the side and they become a cowboy/cowgirl.The people who are not in are running to each side of the pitch (not running around in the middle).

The coaches were really cool. At lunchtime one of them even dressed up as an orange dragon and stood in the middle of the goal and blocked kicks from all the kids.

We had an awesome time and we hope that they come back to Sunnybrae school!
